An Iraqi police officer known for his pursuit of Al-Qa’ida members in Mosul was targeted and killed by two suicide bombers early Wednesday morning. Lieutenant Colonel Shamil Ahmed died when a pair of bombers made their way into his office inside of battalion headquarters. A third suicide bomber was killed by police before he could enter. It was not the first attempt on Ahmed’s life according to officials. Mosul is considered a remaining stronghold of Al-Qa’ida in Iraq.
