Dozens Killed In Missile Strikes On Military Infrastructure In Syria

Multiple massive explosions rocked Syrian military assets overnight, in an attack that reportedly killed more than two dozen people, among them eighteen Iranians. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, Israel “probably” conducted air strikes on the 47th Brigade base, which serves as the “headquarters” of Iranian-backed Shiite mercenaries. By contrast, Syrian state media claimed that the United States and Britain launched coordinated missile strikes from Western bases in northern Jordan that targeted facilities in the provinces of Hama and Aleppo. There was no official statement from Washington, London or Jerusalem about the attack. The development comes exactly three weeks after seven Iranian military personnel were killed in an Israeli mission that destroyed Syria’s T4 air base, from which Tehran directed an attempted drone attack against the Jewish state in February. Thereafter, Israel struck multiple locations in Syria, wiping out up to half of the Assad regime’s air defense systems, before one of its jets was downed for the first time in three decades. The Islamic Republic has since repeatedly vowed to respond to Israeli “aggression,” raising the specter of a direct military confrontation between the arch-foes.
