Thousands of Christian pilgrims and Jewish celebrants from around the world who came to Israel for the Passover holiday added to a festive atmosphere in Jerusalem as the observances coincided. The Old City of Jerusalem is home to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, where tradition says Jesus was buried and resurrected, and where thousands participated in the ceremony of the Holy Fire on Saturday. Celebrations extended into Bethlehem, under control of the Palestinian Authority, many visitors attending festivities in both cities in honor of Easter. The Easter procession took place from the church on Sunday morning. Meanwhile, Jews world-wide prepare to begin the final day – or outside of Israel, days – of the week-long Passover festival.
