Egypt Sends Fuel To Gaza

Egypt sent 11 truckloads of diesel fuel into Gaza as the electricity crisis in the densely populated Gaza Strip worsened. However, Palestinian sources said that Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas is pressuring the company operating the Gaza power station not to use the fuel. The power station is privately owned, but contracted by the PA in Ramallah. Abbas has been increasing pressure on the Islamist Hamas, which controls Gaza, as part of a campaign against Hamas. Officials in Gaza said that even if they use the Egyptian fuel, it is only enough for two days and it does not make sense to operate the station for only two days. The electricity crisis is intensifying after Israel has cut the amount of electricity it supplies to Gaza after a PA request.
