Egypt Still Trying to be Agent for Reconciliation of Hamas and Fatah

Hamas leaders in the Gaza Strip have been invited to Cairo by Egyptian intelligence for another round of trying to reconcile the terror group with their rival faction, Fatah. Senior Fatah officials are already in Egypt where they have been talking about the issues preventing a rapprochement. Hamas is playing hardball with the Egyptians, letting it be known that nothing will happen in the talks unless before anything else occurs, sanctions placed on Hamas and the Gaza Strip by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas are removed. The Media Line has learned that non-officials who are well-respected within Palestinian society have been consulted as part of the quest for reconciliation. Former Prime Minister Salaam Fayyad, one of the Palestinians most respected in Western capitals, was in the Muqata, the seat of the Presidency in Ramallah, on Tuesday. In an ironic twist, President Trump might be having a positive effect on the reconciliation as all Palestinian parties appear to be determined to prove him wrong.
