Egyptian Officials Tell Thousands to Leave

Egyptian authorities ordered thousands of residents who live along the country’s border with the Gaza Strip to evacuate so they can tear down their homes and establish a buffer zone along the border to prevent smuggling between Gaza and Egypt. The decision follows an attack on Egyptian troops in the Sinai that left at least 30 soldiers dead. After the attack, Egypt declared a sate of emergency and imposed a curfew. The government also closed the Rafah border crossing between Egypt and Gaza, and postponed indirect talks between Israel and Hamas that were supposed to begin this week.
