A young Egyptian couple’s moment of bliss that was captured on video turned into a nightmare. A male student at Mansoura University was filmed with a bouquet of flowers kneeling in front of his girlfriend before the to embraced after he proposed marriage. The bride-to-be was immediately expelled from Al-Azhar, the iconic seat of Sunni Muslim ideology while the groom was given a two-year suspension from Mansoura. According to the Ma’an news agency, a heartfelt plea for forgiveness by the former bride-to-be was answered with a penalty of having her miss half of her exams. But the true punishment came when the respective parents put an end to the relationship because of the brouhaha surrounding the engagement.
