Days after Hamas operatives fired scores of rockets and mortar rounds into Israel, an Egyptian security delegation in Gaza is trying to persuade both sides to return to the relative calm that preceded Tuesday’s attack. Israel’s government has reportedly given the green light for small-scale operations in Gaza aimed at taking out the cells firing on Israel. The Egyptians are urging Israel not to retaliate, suggesting they can persuade the Palestinians to halt their fire. Reports claim Cairo is warning if the rockets continue to rain down on Israel, Egypt will cut of ties with Hamas.
