Egyptian President Abdel Fatteh Al-Sisi continues a virtual race against Turkish President Tayyip Recep Erdogan in stifling freedom of expression. Al-Sisi was condemned this week by international rights groups for his latest assault against news organizations, having closed or blocked more than sixty since the end of May. Include are a number of Qatar-based organizations, including Al-Jazeera network and the Egyptian site, Mada Masr, which criticizes the Al-Sisi administration. At least nine other Egyptian news organizations were targeted.
