While the Iranians are demanding that the European Union find mechanisms to circumvent American sanctions, the EU nations who joined the U.S. in forging a deal with Tehran are pleading with the EU to observe terms of the agreement. This, after Iran announced it has exceeded the amount of stockpiled enriched uranium it is allowed in the document and will continue to commit additional breaches as it sees fit. In a statement, France, Germany and the United Kingdom urged Iran to “reverse this step and to refrain from further measures that undermine the nuclear deal.” On Tuesday, Israel’s foreign minister told a security forum that his country is building up its military prowess in preparation for a confrontation with Iran. Yisrael Katz said “mistaken calculations” by the Iranian regime are likely to trigger that confrontation. The minister was more confident that the “economic war” would succeed against Iran despite misgivings of other Western governments.
