Evacuation from Aleppo Proceeds; 25,000 So Far

The flood gates opened at last for those who were languishing in eastern Aleppo where bombs far outnumbered food, medicine and necessities. According to the United Nations, some 25,000 residents of Aleppo’s eastern districts have already been transferred out and it is not known exactly how many are left to follow – a number estimated to be in the “thousands.” The evacuation is the work of Russia and Turkey, the former supportive of Syrian President Al-Assad; the latter the rebels. Since the civil war began in 2011, the UN says more than 310,000 people have died and millions others have been removed from their homes.
