Israeli security officials are struggling with ways to contain and minimize possibly massive marches against its borders from the Palestinian areas, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria as the 44th anniversary of the 1967 Mideast [Six Day] war. It was that war which resulted in Israel acquiring control over eastern Jerusalem, the West Bank, Gaza Strip and Golan Heights. The campaign to recruit protestors is being conducted on Facebook. On May 15, the anniversary of the founding of the modern state of Israel, Israeli troops shot into the throngs attempting to surge across into Israel from Syria, killing 14. Officials are reportedly trying to prepare non-lethal defenses but will not allow the mass of demonstrators to enter the country. Fears are that some among the demonstrators will be seeking to turn the scene violent.
