Fatah Declares “Day of Rage” and Urges “Clashes” with Israeli Troops

An official statement issued by the Fatah movement declares April 28 to be a “day of rage” in support of the hunger strike undertaken by Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails; and urges protesters to “clash” with Israeli security personnel. The day of rage will be preceded by a general strike one day earlier, in which all businesses and institutions are expected to remain closed. Although incitement to violence coming from Hamas is common, Fatah, as the parent faction to the Palestinian Authority, has been more circumspect in its language – particularly since US President Donald Trump took office. Hani Ji’ahara, secretary of the Fatah movement in the northern Hebron area, told The Media Line that the call for “clashes” is “exceptional” and is the result of Israel ignoring Palestinian complaints and the halting of family visits to prisoners. Trump, who will be hosting Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas at the White House on May 3, has asked the Palestinians to end their overt support for those who have committed acts of violence against Israelis, including incitement and the financial support it pays to the families of those killed or wounded in the act of attacking Israelis. About 1,500 Palestinians prisoners have entered their seventh day of the hunger strike.
