Female Suicide Bomber Kills Three in Turkey

Three people were killed and some 20 wounded in Turkey when a female suicide bomber struck a teahouse close to the local headquarters of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP). Police said the woman detonated explosives strapped to her body in the town of Bingol, which is located in a predominantly Kurdish region. The bombing occurred as fighting between the government and Kurdish separatists has flared up in recent months and less than a week after an earthquake struck the region, leaving hundreds dead and thousands more homeless. The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) has carried out suicide attacks in its fight for Kurdish self-rule but in recent years splinter groups have often claimed responsibility.
