Final Polls Show Netanyahu Inching Toward Majority

According to final polls permitted by law ahead of Israel’s national election on Tuesday, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is inching closer to garnering the support of 61 parliamentarians, which would allow him to form a right-wing government. Three separate polls showed Netanyahu’s “natural” political allies together garnering 59, 58 and 57 seats, respectively, in the 120-member legislature. If so, it is almost certain that Netanyahu would be tasked with forming the next coalition, although he might still require the backing of former defense minister Avigdor Liberman’s Yisrael Beitenu party, or, perhaps, entice members of the centrist Blue and White list – which is running neck-and-neck with the premier’s Likud party – to defect. Notably, the Likud has in the past two elections outperformed predictions by pollsters .
