Yityish Aeinao, 21, from Netanyahu has been crowned the first ever Miss Israel from Ethiopia. She came to Israel at age 12 with her brother after her parents passed away and served as an officer in the Israeli army. When her name was announced at the beauty pageant in Haifa she broke into tears. During the spoken part of the competition she said Israel needed more dark-skinned models. “It is important that a member of the Ethiopian community wins the competition for the first time,” she told the judges. “There are many different communities of many different colors in Israel, and it’s important to show that to the world.”
