Allowing 20 truckloads of gravel to be used in a private construction project to enter the Gaza Strip on Sunday was part of the agreement Israel made with Hamas to end a week of fighting last month. According to a Palestinian official, more materials banned since Hamas took over control of the Gaza Strip in 2007 will follow if Hamas abides by its side of the bargain: the promise to halt the firing of rockets into Israel. Since 2010, Israel has been easing its hold on Gaza and has allowed other shipments of materials it had previously banned to enter if it was for use in an internationally-sponsored construction project. Israel says it already allows 300 trucks to pass from Israel into Gaza every day.
