Five Darfur Groups Turn Backs on Peace Talks

The Sudanese government wants peace talks to go ahead as planned, despite the announcements by at least five Darfurian rebel groups that they are boycotting the meeting. The negotiations are scheduled to take place in Libya this weekend. There are around a dozen armed rebel movements in Darfur, which not only are battling against Khartoum but also with one another. Pre-talks meetings have been taking place in Juba, the capital of southern Sudan. However, they say there is insufficient common ground among the rebels themselves to warrant face-to-face talks with Khartoum.
