Five separate suicide bombs exploded on Wednesday in northern Somali regions of Somaliland and Puntland killing a total of 19 people and wounding 18 others. Somaliland has declared independence from Somalia and set up a provisional capital in Hargeysa, where the blasts occurred. In addition to two government offices, the targets included the presidential palace, the offices of the United Nations Development Program and an Ethiopian compound. Somaliland President Dahir Rayale Kahin reportedly survived the attack, although his secretary was killed.
