The Middle East could well be drawn into a regional war if Israel chooses to launch an attack on Iranian nuclear facilities in the opinion of a former head of Israel’s famed Mossad intelligence agency. Speaking on Israeli television, Meir Dagan warned that in response to such an attack, massive missile barrages would shower down on Israel from Hizbullah in Lebanon; Hamas in the Gaza Strip; likely Syria and possibly Iran with long-range weapons. Dagan said the retaliation would cripple the nation. In stark contrast to a recent comment by Defense Minister Ehud Barak who said that in the same situation Israel would lose no more than 500 people, Dagan warned that Israel would suffer a large death toll.
