The cases of former Israeli President Moshe Katzav – first brought to light five years ago — came to a dramatic conclusion on Thursday with convictions on two counts of rape and sexual harassment. Katzav faces between four and sixteen years in prison for each count. The three judge panel called Katav “unreliable” as a witness and found his accuser “credible.” The charges against his first accuser dates back to a decade ago when Katzav served as tourism minister. The case has grown into a rallying point for women’s rights groups, some of which were visible outside the courthouse as the verdict was read.
