French Call for All Foreign Fighters to Exit Syria
French Foreign Minister Jacques LeDrian said on Tuesday that all Iranian-backed fighting forces — including Hizbullah – must leave Syria. LeDrian made is remarks in an interview with BFM Television. Although it’s doubtful the Iranians are going anywhere soon on the French recommendation, the back-and-forth does suggest that the international community is getting behind the need to prevent Iran from turning the devastated remnants of Syria into a base. France also becomes the first nation to be in synch with the Israeli demand that no Iranian proxy forces or the Iranian army or Revolutionary Guard itself get comfortable in Syria. Israel, it has recently been confirmed, has flown many missions against targets in Syria to prevent the receipt of missiles from Iran that ultimately reach the hands of Hizbullah terrorists in Lebanon. It’s also been vocal about not allowing Iran to complete missile factories it’s building in southern Lebanon and Syria. LeDrian also accused Syria of continuing to use chlorine gas against its opponents as it has previously in the seven-year old civil war.
