Ousted Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi has expressed his encouragement and support for Hamas in its war against Israel. Although on trial in Cairo, a message from Morsi was posted on his Facebook page in which he wrote that, "Our compass is set on supporting Palestine against the usurping occupier and we are with any resistance against any occupier.” Morsi offered “A full salute to those who resist and to the revolutionaries.” Morsi was in office in 2012, the last time Israel and Hamas did battle, and Egypt brokered the ceasefire that ended the fighting.
