Gaza Fighting Claims 10 Lives

Fighting between Israel and militants in the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip has left at least 10 dead since flaring up last Wednesday night. Israeli jets have killed nine militants belonging to the Islamic Jihad group it said were involved in staging rocket attacks. Over the weekend, more than 30 rockets and mortar shells were fired at Israel, killing a resident of the city of Ashkelon and wounding two others. Islamic Jihad and two other  factions, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, claimed responsibility for most of the rocket fire, which reached as far as the Israeli port of Ashdod. Militants sent video clips showing truck-mounted multiple-rocket launcher, a platform not previously seen in Gaza. As of Sunday morning there was no sign that an Egyptian-brokered truce was working.
