Tensions between Israel and Hamas continue to intensify, with terrorists having fired a rocket from the Gaza Strip into southern Israel Wednesday evening and again Thursday morning. Both rockets landed in open fields, causing no injuries or damages. In response, the Israeli military struck Hamas naval assets off Gaza’s coast, as well as several “terror bases” within the territory. Over the past week, terrorists have launched six rockets from the enclave into Israel, and the Israeli military has thwarted numerous infiltration attempts by armed Palestinians. The latest conflagration comes ahead of a planned trip to Gaza by Qatari envoy Mohammed al-Emadi, who is expected – with Israel’s blessing – to handover tens of millions of dollars in Qatari cash to Hamas. Many Israeli politicians have slammed Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu for permitting the cash transfers, accusing him of paying “hush money” to Hamas in exchange for the yet-to-be-actualized restoration of calm along the shared border.
