An explosion in a smuggling tunnel dug between the Gaza Strip and Egypt claimed the lives of six Palestinians on Saturday. Palestinian medics told reporters that canisters of gas that were being transported through the tunnel exploded. The network of illegal tunnels proliferated after Israel slapped an embargo on goods bound for Gaza that are not considered humanitarian in nature following the Hamas takeover in 2007. Since that time, at least 130 Palestinians have died in tunnel collapses, accidents and explosions.
