General Assembly Resolution on Palestinian Resource Sovereignty Passes Overwhelmingly

The United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday overwhelmingly passed a resolution on the sovereignty of resources located within its territory. The latest effort by the Palestinian Authority to by-pass the Israeli-Palestinian peace process and create facts on the ground demands that Israel halt all exploitation, loss or depletion of resources and recognize the right of the Palestinian people to claim restitution. Reference was made to damage to infrastructure in the Gaza Strip as a result of Israel’s military ground operation there but made no reference to the reasons for the incursion. The Palestinian campaign to gain admittance to UN organizations as an end-run around the internationally-sponsored Israeli-Palestinian peace process has been termed “diplomatic terrorism” by Israeli premier Binyamin Netanyahu.
