Guilty Plea in U.S. “Martyrdom Operation” for Afghanistan

Najibullah Zazi has pleaded guilty to plotting to blow up the New York City subway system as a protest against the American presence in his home country of Afghanistan. Charges against the 25-year old airport bus driver from Denver include conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction, conspiracy to commit murder and providing material support to Al-Qaeda. U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder called Zazi’s plan “one of the most serious threats” Americans have faced since 9/11. Zazi was recruited by Al-Qaeda while on a visit to Pakistan in 2008 and provided with training before being sent back to the U.S. with plans to blow up the subway. Zazi is the third suspect arrested in the case.
