Palestinians will only discuss the idea of forming a confederation with Jordan after statehood is a fait accompli. The admonition came from Hamas chief Khaled Meshaal in remarks to reporters after meeting with Jordan’s King Abdullah II in Amman on Monday. The monarch used the occasion to reiterate his support for reconciliation between the Fatah and Hamas factions which rule the bifurcated Palestinian territories – West Bank and Gaza Strip, respectively – and for a two-state solution. Jordanian sources said the two men also discussed the implications of the Israeli election and the second term of US President Barack Obama.
