At least one person was killed and several wounded in renewed fighting among armed members of the Palestinian factions Fatah and Hamas over the weekend. While the fighting has largely been restricted to Gaza thus far, there are reports that Hamas is looking to take control of the streets in the West Bank. The Hamas-led government intends setting up its Executive Force across the West Bank. Until now, the force has only been active in the Jericho area. Hamas created the armed body after Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud ‘Abbas (Fatah) took over control of the Palestinian police force, prising it away from the Hamas-run Interior Ministry.
