Hamas Chief In Gaza: No Cease-fire Deal Reached With Israel

Hamas leader in Gaza Yahya Sinwar reiterated that no cease-fire has been reached with Israel and promised ongoing “resistance” until the blockade of the Gaza Strip is lifted. Sinwar suggested that the five-months-long “March of Return” protests along the Gaza border, coupled with the launching of thousands of incendiary objects from the Palestinian enclave into Israel, had resulted in a victory for his terrorist group. “History will write that our people in Gaza, despite the hunger and the siege and with basic tools like balloons, kites and the March of Return [demonstrations], were able to push the enemy to review its calculus,” the Hamas boss was quoted as saying. The relative calm that has prevailed over the past three weeks remains tenuous given that thousands of Gazans continue to clash with Israeli forces along the border every Friday. This reality was reinforced Tuesday when a rare mid-week riot erupted, with hundreds of Palestinians throwing rocks at the Erez border crossing, prompting Israeli authorities to shut down the sole pedestrian passageway from the enclave into Israel. Meanwhile, United Nations and Egyptian intermediaries are continuing to shuttle between Cairo, Jerusalem, Gaza City and Ramallah in a bid to forge an elusive long-term truce deal between Israel and Hamas.
