Three men arrested by Israeli troops in the West Bank town of Nablus on Wednesday morning are being identified as senior Hamas operatives. In all, five arrests were made in Nablus; two in Qalqilya; and one near Ramallah. Hamas is based in the Gaza Strip where the faction maintains political and security control over the population. Unlike the cooperation that exists between Israeli and Palestinian Authority security forces in the West Bank, Hamas is considered by Israel and the United States to be a terrorist organization.
