Britain’s Independent on Sunday quoted Hamas spokesman Mahmoud A-Zahar as saying that after the World Cup series concludes, “more ships than you expected” will be sailing from the Gulf with Gaza as their intended destination. A-Zahar also issued a warning to Egypt, saying it could “stop the ships” by forbidding passage through the Suez Canal, but that, “Egypt will never be able to stop such a campaign.” He told the Independent that eight ships are ready to set sail following the soccer series.
