Hizbullah Claim Proof Israel Killed Its Second-in-Command

Although no one has claimed responsibility for the February 12 killing of Hizbullah operations mastermind Imad Mughniyya, the group now claims it has "proof" that Israel carried out the assassination. Mughniyya died when a car bomb exploded in an upscale Damascus neighborhood. Since that time, Hizbullah has pointed its finger at Israel, while Mideast experts have discussed several possibilities for responsibility, including Syria‘s own intelligence service. Israel has been on high security alert because of the probability that Hizbullah will mount an attack against it in retaliation for the Mughniyya killing. Hizbullah will hold a mass rally in Beirut on Monday to commemorate the end of the 40-day period of mourning for the terrorist mastermind. A Lebanese newspaper has floated the idea that Hizbullah chief Sheikh Sayyad Hasan Na’srallah will make an appearance at the event. Na’srallah has been in hiding for fear that Israel will attempt to kill him.
