A senior Israeli army officer was quoted in the Ha’aretz newspaper that Hizbullah is fighting in Syria with American weapon systems supplied by the US to the Lebanese army. According to the senior officer, who did not want to be quoted by name, Israel has supplied the US administration with evidence, including photographs, of American-supplied armored personnel carriers being used by Hizbullah in Syria. The report said it is not clear how Hizbullah obtained the American APCs from the Lebanese Armed Forces, but the officer said that Hizbullah has recently strengthened its grip on the main national institutions in Lebanon. Lebanon is the fifth-highest recipient of US military aid in the form of light and medium weapons and armed vehicles, including APCs and M-60 tanks.
