Holocaust Remembrance Day Commemorated on Monday

A somber air hovers over Israel on Monday as Holocaust Remembrance Day is commemorated. Observances began on Sunday night with an official ceremony at Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Memorial and Documentation Center in Jerusalem where Prime Minister Netanyahu used the podium to warn the world community not to make the mistake of the 1930s relative to the Iranian nuclear threat. He said, “We need to identify the existential threats on time and to act against them on time.” A siren sounded country-wide at 10 am bringing a halt to all activity: from pedestrians stopping in their paths to drivers standing at attention next to their vehicles. All television is pre-empted for airing movies and short pieces related to Holocaust themes.
