Human Rights Watch: Syria Using Cluster Bombs

The Syrian regime has begun to use outlawed cluster ammunition and are using it against the civilian population according to an accusation made Wednesday by Human Rights Watch. The HRW report said rockets loaded with the cluster ammunition were fired at civilian areas of Keferzita, near Hama, last week. The rights group pointed out that in addition to the lethality of cluster bombs at the time they are fired, unexploded “bomblets” remain in the area and typically cause additional casualties for years into the future. An eyewitness told of seeing a rocket explode in mid-air and releasing the bomblets which fell on the civilian population.  Meanwhile, in Kuwait City, a “dialogue” on the Syrian situation was held between the Kuwaiti and Russian foreign ministers, the former supporting the Assad regime and the latter the rebels. The Kuwaiti minister summed it up, saying “the views of the two sides were different.” The Russian, Minister Lavrov, said both sides are moving toward the same goal “for a peaceful solution.”
