Hundreds Greet Radical Islamist Upon His Release from Israeli Jail

A radical Islamist cleric was greeted by a crowd numbering in the hundreds when he was released from an Israeli jail on Sunday. Sheikh Raed Salah, head of the Islamist Movement in northern Israel, had served a four-month term for assaulting a police officer while leading a violent demonstration in the Old City of Jerusalem. Salah exhorted the crowd, telling it that “Nothing is more important than the cause of Al Aqsa and Jerusalem,” referring to the mosque atop what Jews call the Temple Mount and Arabs call Harem Al-Sharif. Salah has previously been convicted of providing funding to Hamas.
