IDF Urges Lebanese Citizens To Leave Homes Located Near Hizbullah Attack Tunnels

The Israel Defense Forces issued a warning to Lebanese citizens to “temporarily leave” homes located on top of or immediately adjacent to cross-border attack tunnels built by Hizbullah. It comes ahead the military’s prospective demolition of the subterranean passageways, three of which have been exposed since the launch last week of Operation Northern Shield. The tunnel system was constructed by Iran’s proxy with a view to dispatching elite soldiers in a future war to capture entire Israeli towns and villages. The IDF’s Arabic language spokesman tweeted rhetorically to those living on the Lebanese side of the frontier, “Is it not time for you to insist that [Hizbullah] give you clear answers. Are you living in safety when you know that your houses are located above a barrel of explosives?” Meanwhile, the Hizbullah-affiliated al-Manar website reported that Beirut has deployed additional units to the buffer zone that separates the two countries, as stipulated by United Nations Security Council resolution 1701 that set the terms for ending the 2006 war. The IDF has so far limited its activities to within Israel proper, however, senior government ministers have warned of a push into Lebanese territory if necessary.
