Almost a year after the fighting between Israel and Hamas began, the Palestinian Housing Minister said that the rebuilding of 18,000 homes that were completely destroyed in the fighting was set to begin in the comin g days. Minister Mufid Hassayneh told journalists in Gaza that 90,000 partially destroyed homes have already been repaired. A senior United Nations official this week said that Gaza reconstruction is moving at a “snail’s pace|” and that at this rate it would take 30 years to rebuild the damage from last year’s war between Israel and Hamas. Palestinians say Israel has limited the amount of cement allowed into Gaza for rebuilding; Israel says it has allowed 1.1 million tons of construction materials into Gaza, but Hamas has used some of that material for rebuilding tunnels it had used to infiltrate into Israel during the fighting.
