Iranian officials reacted angrily to word that the United States has added nine individuals and entities to the sanctions list calling it a “blatant violation” of the goodwill surrounding the ongoing nuclear talks. The US responded through Treasury Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence David Cohen who explained that the new moves fell under existing sanctions and reiterated that the US government “does not support the imposition of any new nuclear-related sanctions while the talks are on-going.” The talks were recently extended by seven months – according to the Israelis additional time for clandestine work on developing a nuclear weapon will continue. Also on Tuesday, Iran and Iraq signed a memorandum of understanding for Tehran to help Iraq rebuild its army in response to the growing ISIS threat.
