A Saudi fighter jet was downed by the Iran-backed Houthis over territory it controls in Yemen on Saturday. The Tornado warplane was flying support for ground forces of the Yemeni government as they battled the Houthis in al-Jawf province. Making matters worse, based on observations, it’s possible the advanced armaments the plane – in particular a sophisticated surface-to-air missile the Saudi craft carried — has fallen into the hands of the Houthis. Retaliatory flights ere launched immediately and before long the Houthis’ health ministry reported a score of casualties, including at least 30 civilians.
