The latest indication came on Saturday when the state-run Tasnim news agency reported that the Islamic Republic is considering opening naval bases in both Syria and Yemen. Gen. Mohammed Hossein Bagheri is quoted as saying that, “Having naval bases in remote distances in not less than nuclear power. It’s ten times more important and creates deterrence.” Iran is currently providing military assistance to such terrorist groups as Hizbullah, Houthis, Hamas as well as the Syrian regime.
