The first session in the latest round of talks between Iran and the European Union took place in Ankara, Turkey, on Wednesday and now Tehran says it is looking forward to another meeting in the next two weeks. The five-hour discussion between EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana and Iran’s senior negotiator ‘Ali Larijani was chaired by Turkey’s foreign minister and presidential candidate Abdullah Gul. Turkey’s involvement is part of its effort to break into the European club of nations. Seeking membership of the EU, Ankara has consistently tried to act as a peace broker between Middle-Eastern states and between the Arab world and the West.
