Israel’s leading defense journalist is reporting that Iran has supplied Lebanon-based Hizbullah terrorist forces with long-range rockets that have sufficient range to hit Israel’s major population centers. Ze’ev Schiff, writing in the daily Haaretz, says the new weapons have doubled Hizbullah’s effective range, now estimated at about 125 miles. The new missiles carry a 1300 pound payload. Schiff suggests that Iran is seeking to improve its strategic options against Israel, but that weapons such as these in the hands of Hizbullah also pose a threat to Lebanon.
