Iran Hangs Man Accused of Spying for Israel

A man identified as Ali Akbar Siadat, who was convicted of spying for Israel, was hanged in Tehran early Tuesday morning. The state-run news agency IRNA reported that Siadat had for six years been passing information about the Revolutionary Guard’s military capabilities to Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency. It also alleged Siadat received $60,000 for his efforts. The agency said a second man has been convicted of spying for Israel, and as was the case with Siadat, will be identified only after his sentence is confirmed by the court. Two German reporters who were arrested after entering Iran on tourist visas to cover the case of the woman sentenced to death by stoning for adultery were allowed to visit with family members. The Iranian government is accusing them of “posing as reporters” because they failed to obtain necessary permits to work as journalists. Iranian officials deny the two are charged with spying.
