Iran Hits Back after Sarkozy’s Nuke Speech

The statements made by French President Nicolas Sarkozy on Tehran’s nuclear program “lack any value and credit among the world public opinion,” Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Muhammad ‘Ali Hosseini told reporters on Saturday. Sarkozy’s claims are “raised to serve goals of American extremists, Zionists’ media publicity and raise arms sales to regional states,” Hosseini was quoted as saying. The verbal attack followed a speech by Sarkozy on Friday in which he outlined France’s plan to downscale its nuclear arsenal but to retain sufficient weaponry to defend itself. Sarkozy said there was still considerable concern about Iran’s nuclear know-how and said Tehran was expanding its missile range. The Shihab rockets already have most of Europe in their sights and military analysts believe that Iran is developing its own intercontinental ballistic capability.
