Iran and Israel Exchange Warnings

After Iran launched missiles into Syria, an advisor to the Iranian foreign minister, Sheikh Hussein al-Islam, said that Israel “is the main enemy” of Iran and that Israel should be worried. Speaking to the Al-Miyadin network, Al-Islam said that the missile strike showed the strength of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards and that Iran “will not allow terrorism to determine the future of the region.” Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu responded sharply saying “I have a message to Iran: Do not threaten Israel.” Iran launched the missiles into Syria on Sunday, the first time in 30 years it has used them against a foreign country. Iran fired six missiles from the western part of the country into eastern Syria targeting what it called “terrorist bases” in Deir ez-Zor. The attack was in retaliation for combined attacks in Iran earlier this month on both the parliament and the tomb of Ayatollah Khomeini, in which 17 people, including five civilians were killed and more than 50 wounded. The attackers were Iranian citizens.
