Iran Jails 2 ‘Spies’ Reported to Have Aided Israel, UK, Germany

The Iranian government announced on Tuesday that it had sentenced two men to 10 years in prison for allegedly spying for Israeli, British and German intelligence agencies. According to the courts, Massud Mossaheb and Shahram Shirkani supplied information regarding Iran’s banking and defense systems to foreign governments, while also attempting to recruit additional operatives in the country. Over the past few months, five Iranians were arrested on espionage charges and in July two were executed after allegedly passing information to the CIA and Mossad, the American and Israeli foreign intelligence agencies, regarding the whereabouts of Revolutionary Guards Quds Force Commander Qasem Soleimani, who was later killed in an American drone strike. Human Rights Watch reports several other foreign nationals are also currently jailed in Iranian prisons without the benefit of due process, and may be subjected to torture.
