A friendly fire accident in the Gulf of Oman on Sunday left 19 Iranian sailors dead and 15 wounded according to state-run television. The ship, which was inadvertently hit, was a support vessel deployed near the target ship during a live-fire training exercise. According to the Iranian media report, the Hendijan-class Konarak was assigned to place targets in the water for live-fire drills. The training ship aiming at the targets apparently erred in sighting its target and scored a direct missile strike on the Konarak.
